Last Year’s Trips

Last year the Riding Club organised a variety of trips for our members to enjoy. These included some of the following:

 

A trip to visit Avon & Somerset’s Mounted Police department in November 2013. We were shown the horses and some of the techniques used to ‘bombproof’ them, including waving bright flags over their faces! Members were invited to ask as many questions as they could.

 

 

 

We attended Hartpury College’s Grand Prix in December 2013. Members had the opportunity to purchase tickets and attend as a group to see some up-and-coming show jumpers in this fierce competition!

 

In January 2014 UWE Riding Club invited all students, whether or not members of UWE Riding Club, to join them at Cheltenham Racecourse. Cheltenham Racecourse is perhaps the finest course for jump racing and hosts the famous ‘Gold Cup’ every year. If racing is of interest to you, we have another exciting racing trip organised for October 2014 which is a little more ‘behind the scenes’… Details will be released in September!

 

In March 2014, we hosted the very first Riding Varsity event! Varsity is where UWE’s various sports clubs and societies compete against the University of Bristol and it can be incredibly competitive! 2014 was the first time that Riding had an event for Varsity and although we didn’t win (this time), all the competitors had a great day and all our members were encouraged to come along to support our team.

In May 2014, our members had the opportunity to purchase discounted tickets to attend the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials in Gloucestershire. It was inspiring to see riders at such an advanced level and there are a lot of bargains to pick up (which is perfect as student loans are given in May)!
